How To Clean Up Your Jewelry Box

Written by Annabelle

If you’ve got some spare time on your hands, it might be a good time to go through all of your shiny trinkets and see what you need to do with them! After all, jewelry’s like clothing: you might want to clean out some stuff, refurbish a few items, or even get some things repaired. Check out a few ideas we have on how to clean up your jewelry box.

4 Ways to Clean up Your Jewelry Box

1. Combine Bits and Bobs

If you have an assortment of various loose stones, charms, and other miscellaneous precious bits lying around at the bottom of your box, it’s time to get creative! You can have an experienced jeweler set the stones into pendants, charms, or rings, or string up a charm necklace with a new gold chain. One of our clients modified a  hollow gold ring and a single earring which she combined together to make an amazing statement piece.

2. Clean and Restore Old Pieces

You might have avoided taking some pieces out of the box thanks to how grimy and tarnished they look. This is the time to get them back to their original, shiny condition! Send it in to a jeweler for a luxurious jewelry spa that includes polishing, cleaning, and stone tightening. If your item is plated, get it redipped in a fresh bath of yellow gold, rose gold, or white rhodium.

3. Modify and Regift

This gold necklace had its original engravings touched up and a new inscription in Old English font added.

If you’re not looking to wear a piece any more, but you’re also not sure if you want to just sell it, consider getting it back into shape and gifting it to someone close to you! A quick restoration, followed by a meaningful engraving, upgrades a random piece of jewelry into a family heirloom that will be well-received.

4. Custom Creation

One of our favorite clients had an old gold cross with colored gemstones and diamonds that she disliked due to its clunky design. We took out the stones for her, and remade the piece into a sleek, custom white gold bar pendant with a reversible look. Get some inspiration from her and rummage through your pieces; you might find something that you want to redo to fit your current jewelry style.
