Summer Jewelry Care Tips

Written by Quick Jewelry Repairs

With the hot weather fully upon us, it’s easy to accidentally damage your jewelry simply by taking part in our normal day to day lives. But at Quick Jewelry Repairs, we have you covered! Here are our top 6 do’s and don’ts for keeping your gems gorgeous this summer!

DO keep it clean! Wiping down your jewelry after every wear will keep sweat from ruining your favorite pieces. Make sure to removing sunscreen from your jewelry items ASAP to avoid harsh chemicals from damaging your gemstones.

DON’T wear it in the pool, ocean, or shower! Salt water can corrode metals over time, and much like the chemicals in sunscreen, the chlorine content in your pool can leave it’s mark on your beautiful jewelry items.

DO keep it safe! If you’re in for a day of tourist attractions and sightseeing, leaving your pricier pieces in the hotel room safe can keep them from getting lost or stolen while you’re out and about. Save them for when you are getting dressed to impress and you’ll have one less thing to worry about while away!

DON’T put your jewelry in your checked baggage! While ideally your luggage will get where you are going with no delays or issues, there’s no guarantee until you arrive at your destination and pick it up. Getting your pieces insured can really be a lifesaver in the unfortunate cases your items get lost/ stolen.

DO research before shopping! We often make impulse buys while on vacation, but sometimes are disappointed with the quality of the items we bought after returning home. Making sure to research any jewelers you visit while out of town to make sure they are reputable will save you a lot of time and potential heartache in the long run.

DON’T forget to have fun with your accessories! Summer is almost over, so be sure to wear your bold, brightly colored gemstones while the season allows you to showcase them.
