How to Style Fall Jewelry for Every Activity

Written by Anna Currell

Autumn is here! The leaves are changing, the air is getting crisper, and our coziest sweaters are out of storage. There’s something exciting about getting to wear a scarf and a light jacket in those few months between the sweltering summer and the frigid winter. As you’re filling your calendar with fall festivities, have fun dressing up for the occasion. In this article, we’ll walk you through how to style your fall jewelry for every autumnal event.

Carving Jack-O-Lanterns

What’s fall without a little pumpkin carving? You get to pick out your favorites from the pumpkin patch and bring them home for a cozy autumn day of crafting. Set out some newspaper, grab the carving knives, and start making a spooky, silly, or extra creative jack-o-lantern.

This activity tends to get a little bit messy, so make sure you’re wearing something you don’t mind getting dirty (or throw on an apron). As far as jewelry goes, pop in a pair of stud earrings and wear a colorful pendant necklace. These accessories make sure that you’re styled for your pumpkin picking photos, while still staying clear of all the pumpkin guts, dirt, or hay that might get caught in more elaborate jewelry.

Apple Picking

In cider, donuts, or pie, apples make everything feel like fall! Picking your own apples is such a fun way to ring in the season. In addition to passing out the ladders that let you reach for the perfect apple, apple orchards normally have lots of other fun activities like hayrides, corn mazes, and face painting.

Apple picking is the perfect activity to wear that flannel you’ve been dying to wear. In a farm setting with the weather just right, a flannel shirt is the perfect cozy yet breathable layer. While you’re walking through the orchards and finding your way through the corn maze, complete your outfit with some pearl earrings to jazz up your autumnal look. Add a few bracelets to pull together the whole outfit (and make sure to get them in the frame while you photograph your beautiful honeycrisps!).

Fall Brunch

Over the weekend, take advantage of all of the seasonal fall flavors and foods at a fun brunch. Get your fill of apple cider mimosas, pumpkin pancakes, and maple syrup lattes with your friends — you might even be able to sit outside to enjoy some gorgeous fall weather.

It’s always fun to get a little dressed up for brunch. Whether it’s the main event of the day, or the first item on a list of activities, get dressed in something autumnal to get into the spirit. Wear a chunky knit sweater with a skirt and tights, or wrap yourself in your favorite big scarf before you head to the restaurant.

To accessorize, choose jewelry pieces that you can highlight easily with chunky fall clothes; statement earrings, for example, that won’t be hidden under your scarf the way a necklace might. Or choose your favorite tennis bracelet to peak out from your sweater sleeve instead of an anklet that would hide in your boots. Now’s the time to stack rings on your fingers too — you’ve only got a few more weeks before they’ll be hidden in your mittens!

Football Game

Even if you’re not into football, going to a game can be such a fun outing with family or friends. There’s tailgating, themed snacks, and lots of camaraderie. Get into the team spirit: part of the fun is dressing up in your team’s colors and merch. Whether you wear a jersey, a sweatshirt, or a beanie with your team’s colors, you can add a little more creativity to the ensemble with some colorful accessories.

For instance, if you’re rooting for the Giants, wear a pair of dangly blue and red enamel earrings to tie the outfit together. Or if you’re a Packers fan, wear your green bangle bracelets to add some noise when you cheer. Pro tip: with the chaos of a football game, don’t wear your finest jewelry to the game. You don’t want to lose your favorite piece in a crowded stadium.

PSL Leaf-Peeping Strolls

When the trees reach peak foliage, grab your best friend and a pumpkin spice latte for a lovely fall stroll. After ordering your favorite fall drinks at your cafe, head to a great local leaf-changing area — the park, the lake, or even just your neighborhood streets — and breathe in the beautifully crisp air you’ve missed all summer. There’s something so delightfully simple about chatting with a friend, sipping on a warm beverage, and spending time outdoors.

As you hit the trail (or pavement), be sure to dress for the cozy weather. Throw on your favorite athleisure outfit, and don’t forget your puffy vest if it’s extra chilly. With a low-key outfit, you only need a few simple pieces to look polished and ready for anyone you bump into at the coffee shop. Put on your favorite earring stack combination and your favorite chain bracelet, or wear a simple pendant necklace with your go-to watch.

We love jewelry year round, but using it to accessorize for fun fall activities definitely makes wearing your favorite pieces even more fun. After a summer of sunscreen, pool water, and sand, be sure to give your jewelry some extra TLC so it’s ready for the next season. Our team of experts at Quick Jewelry Repairs will give your pieces the full spa treatment so they look their best at every fall event you attend.
