Rhodium Plating

Rhodium plating is a finishing process in which a thin layer of rhodium, a precious metal in the platinum group, is electrochemically bonded to the surface of jewelry. It produces a bright, white, highly reflective finish that resists tarnishing and minor scratches, and is most commonly applied to white gold to restore or enhance its color.

How long plating lasts varies widely, ranging from a few months to several years, depending on the base metal, the thickness of the application, and how the piece is worn. High-friction areas, like the inner shank of a ring, show wear faster. Exposure to chemicals, sweat, and daily abrasion all accelerate fading. Plating is a surface treatment, not a permanent change, and the underlying metal will eventually show through with normal use.

QJR provides a 30-day workmanship warranty on rhodium plating services. Wear, fading, or uneven appearance that develops after that period due to normal use, base metal composition, or pre-existing conditions is expected and not a defect. Re-plating is routine maintenance – how often depends entirely on how the piece is worn.
