Gold Plating Service

Gold plating (also known as gold dipping) is the process of electrically plating gold onto a base metal, which gives your jewelry a bright sunny color! It’s a cost-effective way to transform your jewelry, whether the original plating is wearing away or you just want to give a tired piece a new look.

Our gold plating service accommodates jewelry of all types. To note, plating is commonly measured by microns. For the best result, we recommend selecting at least 1 micron for your jewelry and up to 4 for larger items like necklaces and chains. For a quick golden refresh, consider our flash plating option (below 0.175 micron).

Please fill out the form and required image details above when placing your order. We will reach out if any additional information is necessary to best complete the service. Price may vary depending on the size of the item but, rest assured, we will contact you before we begin our work if your item should incur any additional fees. If, after evaluation, we’re unable to complete the requested work, your item will be returned and a return shipping fee will apply.

  1. Choose color and thickness

Select the item type, gold color, karat appearance, and plating thickness that fit the result you want.

  2. Send clear photos

Show the full piece and any worn, discolored, or damaged areas so we can assess surface preparation.

  3. Clean and prepare

After arrival, the piece is inspected and prepared so the new finish can adhere evenly.

  4. Plate and inspect

The selected gold finish is applied and checked for even color and coverage.

  5. Pack and return

The restored piece is documented and prepared for tracked return shipping.

What plating thickness should I choose?

Flash plating is a light cosmetic refresh. A thicker micron selection provides more coverage and is generally better suited to frequently worn or larger pieces. The right choice depends on the item, base metal, and expected wear.

Can you plate jewelry made from any metal?

Compatibility depends on the base metal, existing finish, and condition. Select the closest material in the form and upload clear photos; we will contact you if the piece needs preparation beyond the selected service.

How long will gold plating last?

Plating gradually wears with friction, moisture, chemicals, and frequency of use. Thickness, item type, and care all affect its lifespan.

“QJR did an amazing job gold plating a sterling pendant I have that would have cost several thousand dollars if it was solid gold. They returned my pendant quickly in a nice box and I was absolutely stunned when I opened it! BLING!!! I'm Thrilled!!!”
